Your instructor, Young Chefs Academy

Deb O’Brien - owner and teacher at Young Chefs Academy of Covington has been an educator and food service industry specialist for many years, including owning a catering company as well as teaching classes for local homeschool co-ops. Teaming with her daughters on catering projects, she enjoyed watching them pick up skills in the kitchen that helped in all areas of life, which has added to her enthusiasm for teaching and working with children and young adults. Young Chefs Academy combines Deb’s two passions: teaching children and the culinary arts. “I’ve always had a passion for teaching, and I love that cooking is a skill that will last kids for a lifetime. It’s a skill we all need.” Deb and the Young Chefs Academy team are excited to foster a community of culinary artists of all ages.


Description

Established in April 2003, Young Chefs Academy offers cooking classes to children in a safe environment that encourages discovery and creativity. While learning food preparation skills is the main ingredient at YCA, each class adds a heap of kitchen safety, a scoop of etiquette, a handful of table setting, a pinch of menu planning, and laughter to taste! Weekly Classes at Young Chefs Academy are the perfect place for students to develop, build upon, and sharpen their culinary skills as they progress through our structured program week by week. Planned around a unique monthly theme, each class is an entirely new experience that incorporates culinary skills that build upon each other to progress over time into more complex food preparation and presentation. Our weekly curriculum will immerse young chefs in a world of culinary creativity and discovery. In addition to developing cooking skills, our weekly classes incorporate elements necessary for a budding young chef such as: kitchen safety, food preparation, cooking & baking techniques, presentation, basic cognitive subject matter, proper food handling, etiquette and manners, table setting, math, science and history, and so much more!
