Your instructor, Tooting Mama

Hey, I am Ranji, I am the founder of Tooting Mama, a Sri Lankan food and photography blog. I'm passionate about Sri Lankan food, and I use my blog to share recipes, and my online classes to showcase how delicious Sri Lankan food is. Sri Lanakn food has a rich cultural heritage including Arabic, Roman, Central Asian, Indian. The country's colonial past has had a big influence on its food heritage, Portuguese, Dutch and English. Sri Lankan cooking and style has also been influenced by the many religions that co-exist: Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam and Christianity. I started running online cooking classes when the pandemic first started in March 2020. It was a way my friends and I could connect. The classes were such a hit, that I began to run more and more. It's a pure joy to introduce Sri Lankan cuisine to a wider audience.

Description

Have you ever wanted to know how to make an authentic curry from scratch? No ready-made sauces, no shortcuts. Maybe you tasted our food while on holiday in Sri Lanka. Perhaps you're planning to go to Sri Lanka and want to find out more about the cuisine. Or you're a keen cook and want to try new food and flavours. Now you can with Tooting Mama's online cooking classes. During my cooking classes, we cook a full authentic meal from scratch. By the end of the class, you will have a meal that you can enjoy with your family and friends. We chop, slice and dice together - you in your kitchen while I am in mine. It doesn't matter if you're not a great cook, I'm there right in front of you to guide you to make a delicious meal. My online cooking classes focus on Sri Lankan cuisine teaching you how to make authentic Sri Lankan curries. Sri Lankan food has a reputation for fiery curries. For me, the joy of eating Sri Lankan food is to have the hot, sour and sweet flavours dance on your tongue. The dishes we are making are a combination of meat or vegetarian. And because you are cooking them in your kitchen, you can adapt the recipes to your dietary requirements. You just choose what you want to make. Here are just some of the recipes we’ll be making during the live, online cookery classes: - Jackfruit patties with pol sambol - Aubergine curry with a soothing dhal - Sri Lankan prawns cooked in coconut My classes are running once a month from January to March, more classes will be added throughout the year.
